Mami's Internship...Day 2

I met more new staff today. I like people here since they all are nice, friendly and welcoming. In the morning, Ny and I carried X’mas stuff to our storage and then I went through books and listed companies/communities which we would like to show our facilities to for our new project. We arehoping to host more gay weddings, since gay marriage is finally legal in Washington. It is very interesting to me because it is the American culture! Probably, I would never do this kind of marketing when I work in Japan. Then, back to work with Ny. I read names and contact info to Ny and she typed them into Open Tables. It was hard for me to read English names because there were many creating names which I am not familiar with. Ny was kind and helpful, so I had a good time and reading practice for me. After that Gracie gave me yummy lobster bisque for today’s lunch! It was a good day because I could see the beginning of “international marketing”. I’m looking for working on the project. Thank you!

Welcome our new intern, Mami

It was my first day of the internship at Ruth’s Chris Steak House today! In the morning, Scott, GM, took me a tour all around the restaurant. Clean, roomy, nice people…It is a wonderful restaurant! Then I put away the Christmas stuff since it is over now. It was a kind of sad work, but we had to do it. After saying goodbye to holidays, I made treat packages to bring to clients to include the restaurant’s menu. Gracie, the Sales Manager and my internship supervisor, and I had lunch on the way to a “business trip” to Microsoft. I ate Steak Sandwich and it was so juicy and delicious. The company is huge, not “micro”. They have a lot of buildings on their campus. Let me call it “Microsoft Town”! This is my first day and I’m so excited to being an intern here!
 I’m getting busy! Thank you.

My Last Day

Today was my last day at interning at Ruth's Chris.  During this internship, I have learned so much about the food and beverage industry, how the restaurant business works in the back and front of the house, plus how to coordinate events. I loved getting to work in the kitchen but then also being able to shadow a server. It was pretty amazing to see the whole process from start to finish and that was definitely a highlight in my time here. This year I will be studying Hospitality and Business Management, I can put all my new experiences and education from here into my studies.  Now that I finally have some actual experience in the industry I could now be more excited for starting school! This internship has definitely set me up for success in my future!
See you later! -Jenny

Busy in the Pastry Department

Today I worked with Michael the Pastry Chef.  He showed me the in and outs of getting all the desserts prepped, mixed, cooked, and presented.  We made two types of cheesecakes, creme brulee explosion cake and our famous bread pudding.  For the cheesecakes I learned how to make and shape all the crusts for the cheesecake to go inside.  After all of that I got to practice writing in chocolate for the Happy Birthday & Happy Anniversary plates.  Its a lot harder then you'd think it would be!!  This was definietly a great days and I learned a lot about all the hard work are put into these delicious pastries!!
Until next time -Jenny

"Like" us on Facebook!

Last week, I started a new page on Facebook, Ruth's Catering and Private Dining. This page is dedicated to raising awareness about the new off-site catering services Ruth's Chris Steak House offers as well as the private dining options we offer at the restaurant. It is still a work in progress, but hopefully this will get people's attention about our catering services. We are posting the offers for the restaurant and any private dining specials, but for right now, I am just trying to get a fan base! We are even booking up for December 2011 for private events, kind of crazy I know, but hopefully, this page will increase awareness about Ruth's Catering. We'll see what happens!

A Working Lunch

Chocolate Explosion
Recently, Gracie and I had a wonderful lunch with the marketing and events coordinator, Amy Sherlock, guest services coordinator, Anna Reis, and fashion events and editorial coordinator, Sarah Butler, from Kemper Development, the company that oversees Bellevue Square, Lincoln Square, and Bellevue Place. They are responsible for marketing throughout the mall and we hope to work with them in the future and possibly cater events they have. For lunch, we enjoyed a couple steak salads, a burger, a french dip, and a seafood salad. For dessert, it was buffet style with Bread Pudding, Chocolate Explosion Cake, and Key Lime Pie. Satisfied, we took a tour of the private rooms and discussed having events for the upcoming fashion week in Bellevue. A luncheon with a fashion show in our main dining room is a possibility and I liked the idea of having models walk around and display the latest fashions during a light lunch. Hopefully, that will be one of our upcoming events! More to come...Hilary

Catering at the Spa, the Wedding Expo, and Delivering Cookies…

Over the past couple weeks, we have catered another event at Red Door Spa, this time in association with a Condo Building in the Bellevue Area, Elements. We brought some amazing bruschetta, an extravagant cheese and fruit plate and assortment of nuts. As it is the “Red Door Spa”, we also brought a variety of red wines. It is always fun to cater an event for them, as all the guests are eager to hear about Ruth’s Chris and our new catering services. They also always rave about our Happy Hour, which is continuously said to be the best Happy Hour on the Eastside.
This past Sunday, Gracie and I attended the Seattle Wedding Expo at the Seattle Center. It was an interesting experience to say the least, as Gracie made me pretend to be the bride. Being swarmed by photographers, wedding coordinators, DJs, and cake bakers was a battle in itself, coming up with a creative story about how I met my fiancé and when we were getting married. We are trying to tap into the wedding business for Ruth’s Chris Catering and seeing how the other caterers promote themselves was educational and intriguing with their creative advertising.

Gracie was away on Thursday and Friday, so I came in the mornings to man the phones and handle the BEOs for the next two weeks. I also wrapped cookies for the sales calls Gracie and I normally do on Friday. After all the calculations from the parties over the past week were done and the cookies were wrapped, I started to follow-up on inquiries for parties in the future. I now have my own copy for all of the party information, so I have been taking a more active role in planning parties. We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks, but that’s all for now…

Event Planning Extraordinaire!

On Thursday, Gracie and I had lunch with Judy and Ashley from Events Extraordinaire. We have been looking to expand Ruth's Catering to weddings, receptions, and larger private parties, so working with Events Extraordinaire (EE) would be a great opportunity to expand our catering services. EE has over 35 years of experience in the event planning business, working weddings and other social events, as well as corporate and non-profit banquets. We enjoyed an amazing lunch including Asparagus with Hollandaise, Chicken Caesar Salad, French Dip Sandwiches, and our Portobello Mushroom Sandwich. For dessert, Judy and Ashley decided their craving would be satisfied with Bread Pudding, while I enjoyed the Creme Brulee.
After lunch, as part of our plan to spread the word about Ruth's Catering, we showed the ladies around the restaurant and what sort of amenities we have to offer clients, including our three private dining rooms. Check out the Events Extraordinaire website to see their amazing photos and all the events they have handled in the past: http://www.eeseattle.com/

The New Year is Here!!!

Happy New Year to everyone! The past four month have been hectic, but amazing. Gracie and I took part in networking events, catered for Red Door Spas and Microsoft, and had many adventures together. But now to the new year...Right back from winter break, it was back to work at Ruth's Chris. The first two days, we had two all-day conferences that had everyone involved working crazy hours, but it was a great experience to have the restaurant bustling and busy at seven in the morning. I participated in the normal activities, creating events, sales calls to the different buildings and companies in the area, as well as new and different tasks. Gracie and I attended the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce monthly meeting on Tuesday morning and in preparation, I had to prepare an elevator speech, a 30 second pitch about what Ruth's Chris has to offer different clientele and how we market ourselves to the surrounding community. It was an excellent learning experience, listening to how others market themselves and what each company focuses on in their pitch. So, the next time you are going to pitch something, come up with a 30-second hook for it, it's harder than it seems. Anyways, after the craziness of the holiday season, we are focusing on the catering aspect, trying to gain a larger client base. We have some events in the future, so I look forward to telling you all about them.--Hilary

Fa, la, la, la, la..la, la, la, lah!

So we haven't updated in a while due to snow, and then Thanksgiving, but we're back and the Holiday season is in full swing!!!  December 1st we had 2 lunch banquets, 3 dinner banquets, and an offsite catering event for 250 at the new Microsoft Store.  Phew...we LOVE it.
This weekend we will be hosting 4 banquets on Friday and 5 on Saturday.  We wish it could be DECEMBER every month.  We'll be drinking a lot of coffee...
